Founded by experienced chamber musicians steeped in the standards and style of the classic Russian school, the Kopelman Quartet carries forward a rich inheritance of technical excellence, lyricism, grace and musical integrity.

Mikhail Kopelman was born in 1947 in the city of Uzhgorod (former USSR), and began his violin studies at the age of six. He studied with Maya Glezarova and Yuri Yankelevich at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1973 he won second prize in the Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris.

Boris Kuschnir was born in Kiev in 1948.  He studied violin at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire with Boris Belenky and chamber music with Valentin Berlinsky of the Borodin Quartet. He  won numerous prizes at international violin and chamber music competitions (Paris, Belgrade, Sion, Trapani, Bratislava, Florence, Trieste, Hamburg) and his many encounters with Dmitri Shostakovich and David Oistrakh (with whom he also studied), had a lasting influence on his artistic development.
 

Igor Sulyga was born in 1951 in Lviv, Ukraine (formerly the USSR) and studied there before entering the Moscow Conservatoire, where he continued to study with Fyodr Druzhinin and from where he graduated with a diploma in viola performance. He went on to study at the Moscow Gnessin Institute with Professor Berlinksy, cellist of the Borodin Quartet, where he received his Master's Diploma.
 

Mikhail Milman studied at the Moscow Conservatoire with Natlia Gutman and Mstislav Rostropovich; in addition, he studied with Valentin Berlinsky.  He was principal cellist of the Moscow Virtuosi, under Vladimir Spivakov,  for twenty years, and as such toured extensively throughout Europe and America.

Grammy-winning artist Eddy Davis is a masterful musician, singer and composer. He received his formal training at Purdue University, Chicago University and both the Cosmopolitan and Chicago Conservatories of Music. Mr. Davis has appeared on stage at most major concert venues throughout the world including: Paris' Olympia Theatre, London's Royal Festival Hall and New York's famed Carnegie Hall.

Conal Fowkes is a Grammy winning pianist, double-bassist, vocalist, arranger and teacher. His skills and expertise cover diverse fields of music from traditional jazz to swing and post-bop, from traditional Cuban Son to Salsa and Latin jazz.

Julian Lampert's hallmark is Versatility; between his work as composer within several genres to his performance career as a concert pianist, Julian speaks a universal language of music marked by his multi-cultural background.

Boris was born in the city of Kharkov, Ukraine (former USSR), where he began his training as a musician. He had traveled to America 10 years ago amidst the collapse of the Soviet Union. While attending F.D.R. High School in Brooklyn, NY, Boris continued his studies and music and also developed a keen interest in Photography. Over the years, he continued to perfect his skills in both areas.

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Yoshi began to play jazz bass at age of 20. Over the next few years, he emerged as a sought-after accompanist, with regular appearances at jazz clubs in Tokyo. In 1996, he moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music, where he was givenOutstanding Performer Award. After graduation, he was on the tour for two years with the National Tour Company of Fosse, a Tony Awarded musical show. His rhythm-section mate was Bobby Economou, former drummer of rock group Blood Sweat & Tears. Yoshi currently lives in Brooklyn, New York and plays and tours with various groups in the city. Appearance includes some of the major venues and well known club in the city such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Blue Note, and Knitting Factory.

Acclaimed by the Moscow News as “a forceful, mature personality with a phenomenal technique and playing of emotional depth,” Alex Ruvinstein began his music studies at the age of five. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the Uman State College of Music, and shortly thereafter received his Master’s at the Gnesin Academy in Moscow. After receiving his Doctorate with Professor Naum Starkmann at the Maimonides State Academy in Russia, Mr. Ruvinstein worked as Professor of Piano and an accompanist for cellists and singers at this institution.

Paul is the son of a prolific poet, and an accomplished classical music conductor. Of Puerto Rican heritage, Paul grew up on the Gulf of Mexico in Corpus Christi, Texas. When he turned 5, his aunt sent him a "music minus one for drummers" record, with a pair of drumsticks; he was transfixed, and immediately started lobbying to play the drums. So, for his 6th birthday, a big package came in the mail - and after Paul tore it open, he found nestled inside, a shiny, delicate violin. He thus began with the violin at the age of 6, switched to trumpet at 12, playing in the Jr. High School marching band, yet always rallying to play the drums. His father got the post as music director of the Kansas City Philharmonic, and after the move, Paul befriended the principal percussionist, Vince Bilardo, who helped convince Paul's father to get him a drumset; so, at 17, Paul got a set of red-sparkle Gretsch drums!

New York mezzo-soprano, Sara Fanucchi has been described by Opera News as a “vibrant, eye-catching presence whenever she was onstage” and as "attractive in sound and person." She has performed numerous roles including Dorabella in Cosi fan Tutte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Hansel in Hansel und Gretel, the title role in The Rape of Lucretia, and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. She has performed at Avery Fisher Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The Players Club, Kaye Playhouse, and St. John the Divine and with companies including Opera New Jersey, Bronx Opera, Garden State Opera, Amore Opera, and dell'Arte Opera Ensemble.  Saraspent two seasons as a young artist with Opera New Jersey andholds a Masters of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music.

Barbara Rosene has built an unequalled reputation for interpreting the great music of the 1920s and 30s. She is a passionate vocalist whose interpretations uncover the richness of jazz classics through the subtle, skilled delivery of one truly in love with the genre she sings.

"A prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene" (Time Out-New York) and "one of New York's great jazz drummers and composers (Capital, New York), Rob Garcia continues to be a strong presence in the New York and international jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader. He has collaborated with such stellar artists as Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis, Vince Giordano, Woody Allen and Joseph Jarman and has played on over 40 albums including grammy winners. Rob's album, "Perennial" (BJUR 012) was in the "10 Best Jazz Albums of 2009" in the New York Observer. His group, the Rob Garcia 4, has performed at venues such as The Ottawa Jazz Festival, Iridium, Smalls, the Kingston Jazz Festival and the Toronto Jazz Festival. Rob has also received grants from Meet The Composer, DCA and NYSCA to support his performances.

Jerry has played with Frank Sinatra for several years, starting in 1979 with performances in Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. He toured with him throughout the U.S. and Brazil. As one of America's most distinguished studio musicians, Jerry recorded with Tony Bennet, Don Costa, John and Bucky Pizzarelli. Jerry has also toured and performed extensively with Liza Minelli, Tommy Dorsey, and Louis Prima.

Jazz legend, bassist Ron Carter, wrote the following, as liner notes for Dmitri’s debut album: "His sound is warm and big, and his choice of notes is truly inspirational. His playing continues to grow and make his presence on New York jazz scene necessary. His compositions also merit close attention."
